What do Peaches, Kandy, Roxy and Jaycee all have in common?
They’re each among the contestants in the first-ever womanless beauty pageant held during June 24th activities.
The event, which is sponsored by the Florala Civic Club, will be held Monday night “around 7,” said organizer and civic club member Patty Robbins.
“As soon as the Anything Goes Parade and water battle is over, we want everyone to come over to the middle to watch these ‘beautiful ladies’ compete,” Robbins said.
Contestants can enter up until curtain time, but Robbins said a completed application must be turned in so that the emcee will have the necessary information.
Currently, there 10 contestants, she said.
There is a $25 sponsorship fee for each contestant, and the pageant winner will receive $50 cash, a month’s membership to the Super Gym and a gift certificate to the Huddle House.
The money raised from the event will be used to fund civic club scholarships, Robbins said.
Club members hope the event will become a Masonic Celebration staple in the future.
“We had discussed (hosting the pageant) off and on for a year and decided to try it and hopefully it will be annual event,” she said. “If we incorporated it with the June 24th activities, it would be helpful to them and us. It’s good family entertainment to go and enjoy.”
Admission is free for children 3 and under; $3 for sixth grade and up, and $1 for fifth grade and down.
