Kids up to 15 years of age can fish for free at Open Pond in the Conecuh National Forest this Saturday at the 24th annual Kiwanis Fishing Derby.

The Kiwanis Club of Andalusia hosts the event in conjunction with the U.S. Forestry Service. Activities begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at 11 a.m. A parent or guardian must accompany each child.

Children should bring their own fishing pole and bait to take part in the fishing derby. There will be door prizes given during the day for a casting contest, largest fish and most fish caught.

There also will be free food and soft drinks for everyone. No fishing license is required for this day only.

CenturyTel sponsors the event each year.

To reach Open Pond, follow U.S. Hwy. 29 south of town, and take a left on Alabama 137 toward Wing.

After you pass Blue Lake Grocery, look for the Fishing Derby sign, make a left and follow the signs to Open Pond.
