Harold Brogden

Harold Brogden, 72, of Tuscaloosa, died May 13, 2009, at Hospice of West Alabama. A visitation for friends and family was held Thursday night, May 15, at Taylorville Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services were held on Sat., May 16, at the Church with Dr. Curtis Kelley officiating. Burial followed in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sellers Tillman Brogden and Shirley Eiland Brogden, and his twin brother, Farrell Brogden.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Doreen Silverman Brogden; his son, Gregg Brogden (Lyric); his sisters, Jean Buchanan and Lenorah Gibbons of Tuscaloosa, and Linda Palmer (Carl) of Huntsville, Ala.; sister-in-law, Jackie Sartain (Jerry); brother, Robert (Bob) Brogden (Gaynell) of Tuscaloosa; numerous beloved nieces and nephews, and his little four-legged friend, Sasha.
Harold was born, raised, and educated in Andalusia. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence, where he was a member of the first crew after the ship’s commission. Mr. Brogden relocated to Tuscaloosa in 1960. He was a man who touched others with a kind word and a caring spirit and loved his family fiercely. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers were his nephews Bobby Brogden, Randy Sartain, Charles Creech, Douglas Creech, and Matthew Buchanan, all of Tuscaloosa, and Jeff Palmer, Tim Palmer, and David Palmer of Huntsville.
Honorary pallbearer was Jody Allen of Tuscaloosa.
Harold loved flowers and he had many floral tributes at the visitation and funeral. Contributions to the Taylorville Baptist Church Building Fund, 7201 Moundville Lane, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405; and Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405, were also accepted.
