The game went into triple figures Tuesday night as Red Level tacked on another win, beating Brantley 102-87, to improve to 5-1 on the young season.
The Tigers’ leading scorers D.J. Sankey, Cale Nolen, Luke Sharp and Kyle Nolen all shot in the double digits to help boost their team to the win. Sankey finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists; Cale Nolen had 22 points; Sharp had 20 points and Kyle Nolen had 17.
Red Level coach Fred Kelley said he saw some great shooting from the team Tuesday.
“We were just fortunate we shot really well from the field,” Kelley said. “The way they played us caused us to play a more up-tempo game. It was a huge win for us over a quality team. (Brantley) coach (Jonny) Mitchell had that bunch ready to play.”
Red Level had a seven-point lead at halftime, but extended that lead in the third quarter.
“I think in the third quarter was when we got the tempo going our way,” Kelley said. “The game gave us a lot of confidence going into Greenville Friday night.”
Kelley said the team still has work to do to get ready for Friday.
“We’re going to work on the defense and continue to establish our tempo and cut down turnovers,” he said. “(My team) realizes we’re at home and have got a chance to do something as a team that could get us ready for the tournaments coming up and Christmas break.”
Wesley Person scored 31 points to lead Brantley.
In girls action earlier Tuesday night, Brantley won 65-58.
Leading scorer for the Lady Tigers was Koneshia Callaway with 24 points.
Red Level will host Greenville Friday. Play starts at 4:30 p.m.
