Panthers keeping eyes on the prize

During the 2006 season, Donald Ray Mixon's Georgiana Panthers have won only two games, but those two games came back-to-back.
Staring elimination of contention for the Class 2A state playoffs straight in the face, back-to-back wins is exactly what the Panthers need and must have in order to make this year's postseason.
The Panthers still have hope for this year's playoffs after defeating region foes Bayside and Southern Choctaw in Week's 2 and 3, but Georgiana must win Friday night's game against Keith and then next week's game at Excel in order to clinch a playoff berth.
“It's a really big game for us,” Georgiana assistant coach Jerome Harris said of this week's game.
Keith is coming off a 36-17 loss to Georgiana's opponent next week, Excel, while the Panthers are reeling from a heart-breaking 28-25 loss to Flomaton.
During last week's game, the Panthers and Flomaton exchanged the lead six times, something Georgiana cannot do if they expect to make the playoffs.
Kickoff for Friday night's game against Keith at Harmon Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
