The McKenzie Tigers continued practice this week and head coach Miles Brown said the team had some good days, and some bad.
“We've had our ups and downs,” Brown said. “We're just trying to finish our week strong.”
This week, the Tigers have focused on special teams and defense, and Brown said he likes the intensity his team is beginning to show.
On offense, Brown said he and his coaches are satisfied.
“Offensively, right now, we feel pretty good with the packages we have in,” Brown said.
In the Tigers' backfield, Brown said at each position the players have been pushing each other and that is something he likes.
“Both running backs (Elrick Ball and Jarrell Mobley) have really been pushing each other and competition is something I just love,” Brown said.
At quarterback, Sattrick Rudolph is coming along smoothly as the Tigers' new quarterback and so has his backup, Calvin Henderson.
“Calvin has a bright future ahead of him and we are expecting big things from him,” Brown said.
Brown said his team has started putting in plans for the opening game against J.U. Blacksher, but Blacksher has not been the main focus of his team.
We've been working on us,” Brown said. “Our main goal has been McKenzie.”
The Tigers will continue practice next week and close the week Friday with a scrimmage.
“We'll have several in-house scrimmages (next week) and then end the week with a big scrimmage,” Brown said.
McKenzie opens the 2006 season at J.U. Blacksher. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
