McKenzie police officers arrested two men on drug possession charges during an early morning raid at an abandoned house Saturday.
Quinten Neal Shufford, 19, and Bobby Ray Cobb, 21, were both arrested and each charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana 2nd, and possession of a controlled substance, according to McKenzie police officer Ronny Terry.
Officers raided the home at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, said Terry. The home is located on 88 Wise Rd. and has been abandoned, he said.
“There is no running waterŠno sewage,” he said. “The lights are on and that's about it.”
The arrests were part of an on-going investigation initiated six months ago, according to Terry. Officers recovered an ounce of marijuana and a pipe with crack cocaine still visible inside.
“We sent it (the pipe) to the lab for analysis as is,” Terry said.
Officers also seized $283 in U.S. currency, an assortment of aluminum beer cans, several wrapped blunt cigars, and hundreds of small plastic bags, commonly used in the packaging of marijuana for re-sell. Officers also found a larger bag, containing the smaller bags, beneath the seat of a vehicle outside.
Terry said the beer cans, each indented and peppered with small holes on the side, are used as makeshift crack pipes. Addicts place a small piece of crack over the holes and smoke through the top of the beer can, he said.
Terry said more arrests could be pending as a result of the raid.
