Fort Dale Lady Eagles' head coach Reggie Mantooth was able to empty his bench Friday night as his girls took an early 23-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and stretched it to a 67-24 win over visiting Monroe.
Eagles' senior Francis Watts led all scorers with 21 points and seven assists, while senior Maryann Hancock posted 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore Tyler Manning added 10 points.
“I think as a team we worked well together,” said senior Lacey Norrell after the game. “When some players were not able to get a shot, somebody else stepped up.”
Eagles' head coach Reggie Mantooth said that while it was a lopsided win, there are still some things his team needs to work on to get prepared for tournament season.
“I think we still need to execute better offensively,” he said, adding that his team has played much better since the Christmas break.
“We didn't handle the ball very well,” said Volunteers' head coach Rick Raines after the game. “We didn't shoot the ball very well and they did a good job shooting. We just need to continue to play hard and maybe good things will happen.”
Ashton Salter led Monroe with 12 points with Fairly Moye adding five points.
