Lions take over airwaves

Today the studios of Q-94 FM Radio will be overrun with lions - make that the Greenville Lions, who holding their Annual Radio Day at the local station. It is the civic organization's big fundraiser, and a fun time for a very worthy cause, organizers say.
According to Lion Herbert Morton, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., he and his fellow Lions will share on-air advertisements for local businesses that are supporting the endeavor. “There will also be an on-going trivia contest offering some truly terrific prizes donated to Radio Day,” Morton said.
The piece de resistance of the day will undoubtedly be the Ugliest Man Contest, which kicks off at 2 p.m. Callers can phone in to vote on their choice for the city's most unattractive fellow - a title he will carry until next year's Radio Day. Morton said the recipient of this coveted title also gets to ride on his “throne” during the city's annual Christmas parade.
“We really appreciate the response from hundreds of local businesses and individuals to our annual Radio Day. The funds raised go to local and national sight-saving projects and to help children in need of corrective surgeries,” Morton said.
“We encourage everyone to support our sponsors, call in and participate in the trivia contests today - and certainly, vote their conscience for the Ugliest Man.”
