August 13 will be a big day in the Camellia City. Not only is it the kickoff day for the YMCA-sponsored Watermelon Jubilee, it is also the day folks from near and far can gather at the Greenville Airport to support a very worthy cause.
A new locally based charitable organization, Seasons 4 Christ, is offering a Saturday morning filled with entertainment and activities at the local airport. The event is slated to run from 9 a.m. until noon.
&uot;We want folks to come out and enjoy both the Jubilee and our 'Fun Day at the Airport.' We have a wonderful morning planned, and all proceeds will go to Pilots For Christ. This is a volunteer organization that flies those with urgent medical needs, along with their family members, to hospital facilities completely free of charge,&uot; Vesta Taylor, one of the organizers of the new group, said.
A Pilots For Christ volunteer will be flying one of their planes into the Greenville Airport for the event, and a WW II trainer will also be on display that day.
Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the morning, with well-known Christian songwriter-musician, Jerry Arhelger, slated to be the headliner for the day.
&uot;We are so excited to have Jerry coming to perform for us. Many people are familiar with his hit song, ‘Breaker, Breaker, Sweet Jesus.’ Jerry has traveled all over the world sharing his music and ministry with people; I know he will be a blessing to those who come and hear him,&uot; Taylor said.
Others scheduled to perform at the fundraiser are the Ben Nelson Band, Sabrina Reynolds, Tera Simmons and other local talents.
Taylor promises there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
&uot;We will also have free face painting and great little toy airplanes for sale for the kids, along with a pie contest for our fine local cooks. We’ll also offer hot dogs and burgers for hungry folks and much, much more,&uot; Taylor said.
Seasons 4 Christ members and sponsors have also compiled a seasonal cookbook which will be on sale at the event. Copies of the new cookbook, which run $17 each, can also be found at several area businesses, including Alissa’s Closet and Just Julie’s Coffee Caf\u00E9.
&uot; This is a great hardcover cookbook with wonderful recipes from throughout our area. And every penny of profit goes to Pilots For Christ, which has helped some of our local families, including Jerry and Vickie Golden,&uot; Taylor said.
&uot;We encourage everyone to come out and join us for a great morning for a great cause,&uot; she added.
