While Georgiana's varsity baseball team is having a week off due to the Alabama State High School Graduation Exam, the junior varsity Panthers were in action Thursday night in Luverne. They also picked up their first win of the season in convincing fashion. The Panthers rocked the Tigers to the tune of 11-3.
Ronald Scott proved to be the Panthers' dominant force on the mound, throwing a complete game and recording nine strikeouts.
The Panthers were also able to garner offensive help from Deven Cheatham, Terrence Hatcher and Joe Mixon.
Cheatham was hot at the plate, finishing the day 3-of-4 with 3 RBI courtesy of a single and two doubles. Hatcher was 2-for-4 with 2RBI off of a single and a ground rule double. Mixon finished the day 1-of-4 with 2RBI and a double.
"I'm proud of the way my guys played yesterday," said Donald Ray Mixon, coach of the Panthers. "We had a lot of two out and two strike hits as well. Cheatham and Donald Scott had a big day and then."
The 1-3 Panthers lost to the Tigers in their season opener and will look for their second win at the end of March. Georgiana will travel to Highland Home on March 31 and try to ground the Flying Squadron.
The varsity will take the field on March 21 against Flomaton in their first area game of the season.
