Luverne's Fred Hawkins (10) congratulates teammate Gary Franklin towards the end of Monday night's 77-67 regional win over Samson at Troy University. The two players helped key the Tigers' attack as Franklin dropped in 29 points and Hawkins added 28. Macklin Burnett was the Tigers' workhorse on the inside pulling down 23 rebounds and scoring 12 points. Burnett's effort tied a Class 2A regional record for Most Rebounds in One Game, pulling him even with Bernard Nunn of Gilmore-Bell (1994). The Tigers face Lanett on Friday morning at 10:40 a.m. in Trojan Arena. A victory sends Luverne to the Class 2A Final Four in Birmingham on March 1-5.
