Andalusia residents will have two new traffic lights to watch for beginning this morning.
According to Gerald Farris, the project engineer for Thompson Engineering Testing, a firm working in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), new traffic lights will be activated at the intersection of South Three Notch and the Bypass near Brooklyn Road and
the vicinity of Sister's Flea Market, and at the intersection of Hospital Road and the Bypass near Kentucky Fried Chicken.
"We are hoping that the signals will be activated around 9 or 10 a.m.," said Farris. "We will have to wait for ALDOT technicians to arrive before we get everything fully operational."
Farris said the lights have been in flashing mode since the middle of last week and said he anticipates no problems with the activated signals.
"We hope there would not (be a greater risk of accidents due to the activated signals)," said Farris.
Farris advised drivers to use caution with the new lights.
He said other lights in the city have been replaced, but the ones to activated today are the only two new ones.
