Florala Police are investigating the cause of death of a local man who was found floating in a pond in the city limits Sunday.
FPD Chief Sonny Bedsole said Monday that the department received the call around 10 a.m., on Sunday.
“Some kids had found it and reported to their parents on Saturday,” he said. “I guess the parents didn’t believe them and first, but the dad went down there Sunday morning and found the body.”
Bedsole said the body was found in a pond off of Third Street.
Bedsole identified the victim as David Porter, who was in his 50s.
Bedsole said that Porter was from Florala and moved to Georgia for a time and had recently moved back.
“We have taken the body to the state department of forensics for an autopsy to see if we can determine the cause of death,” he said.
Bedsole said that there was no signs of violence or struggle.
“There were no signs of trauma to the body,” he said. “We are hoping that forensic can figure out what happened. It could be an accident.”
