Less than two weeks after the U.S. Justice Department announced it was launching an investigation into violence, abuse, overcrowding and other issues in Alabama’s prisons, two more inmates have died in William C. Holman Correctional Facility near Atmore.
The DOC on Wednesday reported that one Holman inmate died as a result of being stabbed in a four-way fight, and another died of an apparent suicide.
The stabbing occurred on Monday morning. The inmate’s name was not released.
Holman inmate Robert Deangelo Carter died of an “apparent suicide,” the system reported.
Carter’s dead body was found “hanging from a bed sheet” in his solitary confinement cell on Oct. 9, the statement said.
